Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Why call a professional company?
Answer: Hiring Carolina Crime Scene Recovery removes the property
owner's liability in two ways. First, we are the only bio recovery firm in the nation founded
by a veteran CSI, which means we are more accustomed to working with law enforcement and
surviving family members, plus, our investigative expertise gives us an advantage no other bio
recovery firm possesses. Second, we are trained in waste removal, working with quaternary and
anti-microbial chemicals, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Most
cleaning and restoration firms are not.
Question: Who pays for your services?
Answer: The property owner is ultimately responsible, however, most people
do not realize that bio hazard contamination is considered "structural damage". So, even in the
case of a suicide where property damage was not intentional, homeowners and business insurance
will usually pay for our services if their criteria is met. In addition, all states have some
type of victims' assistance programs available for surviving family members if meet certain
criteria.
Question: Are there state or federal laws that require professional bio recovery?
Answer: Actually, yes. Federal regulation 29CFR1910.1030 states that before
an employee can be sent to clean blood and body fluids, the employer must first:
- Provide Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) training
- Provide a written BBP Exposure Control Plan
- Provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Offer the Hepatitis B vaccine and medical follow up
- Provide a method for disposal of bio hazard waste
Not meeting these criteria may result in hefty fines, law suits by employees,
and possible worker compensation claims filed against the employer.
Question: How do you charge for your services?
Answer: We follow the crime scene clean up section in the latest edition of
the "BlueBook Cost Guide for Cleaning, Reconstruction, and Repair", the international standard
for the cleaning industry. Our pricing is structured and consistent, not made up. We provide
a free on-site assessment and estimate within a 50 mile radius of our firm. We photograph the
scene before, during, and after the cleaning process. When complete, we provide a detailed
report as well as an invoice that is broken down into sections. Our clients will be able to
see what we did and how much it cost.
